Established in 1290 by King Dinis, it is the oldest in the country and second oldest in the Iberian Peninsula. After lunch you'll get to visit the Old Cathedral, an ancient Monastery (Santa Clara) and the ancient Roman Ruins of Conímbriga. Conímbriga is one of the largest Roman settlements excavated in Portugal, and was classified as a National Monument in 1910.

The Old Cathedral of Coimbra (Portuguese: Sé Velha de Coimbra) is a Romanesque Roman Catholic building in Portugal. Construction of the Sé Velha began some time after the Battle of Ourique (1139), when Prince Afonso Henriques declared himself King of Portugal and chose Coimbra as capital. The first Count of Coimbra, the Mozarab Sisnando Davides, is buried in the cathedral.

The ruins of the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Velha are located in the city of Coimbra, in Portugal. The monastery was built in the 14th century on the left bank of the Mondego River, but had to be abandoned in the 17th century due to frequent floods.

Conímbriga is one of the largest Roman settlements excavated in Portugal, and was classified as a National Monument in 1910. Located in the civil parish of Condeixa-a-Velha e Condeixa-a-Nova, in the municipality of Condeixa-a-Nova, it is situated 2 kilometres from the municipal seat and 16 kilometres from Coimbra.
