Renowned by UNESCO as a World Heritage City, Évora is surrounded by ancient walls with an incredible castle at the center. In this tour you will be able to rediscover Portuguese history by visiting Évora’s museums, its “Temple of Diana” and the “Chapel of Bones”.
The "Herdade da Calada" is a unique farmstead with a beautifull wine-house. Its elegance and beauty are recognized by anyone who has seen it. Alternatively we may visit "Herdade da Cartuxa", equally beautiful.
Some of the best wines in Portugal come from the Alentejo, specifically from this producer. The wine-house was founded in 1854 by descendants of the Dukes of Lancaster, making it one of the oldest in the country. The buildings are impressive, the wine-house dazzling by the size and number of casks it houses. This is where the magic happens, where the wine ages in wood casks, giving it a special flavor that can only be found in this area of Portugal.
This is perfect opportunity to have a few tastings of our wines and connect with nature altogether. The Alentejo is considered to have beautiful landscapes with endless plains and stunning fields and plantations.
We begin by picking you up in Lisbon at your desired Hotel/Address. At 10am we are arriving at the impressive "Herdade da Calada" or "Herdade da Cartuxa" where you will learn how the wine is made and everything about the process. You will get the chance to try different wines produced in the area and learn their history. The tour around the wine-house will take approximately 60 minutes.
Later we will take you on a unique experience to connect with nature. A stroll through the estate to show you different plantations and fields that are common in this area of Portugal. The farmstead has a strong agricultural component for those who enjoy the process. Every crop and/or tree plantation will be explained in detail.
We will take you to lunch in one of the traditional restaurants in nearby Évora. After lunch the plan is to take a stroll through historical Évora and show you its walls and castle. This is the perfect complement to a full day through Portuguese History, Culture and Agriculture!
